Beautiful North Bay on Lake Nipissing was the host site for the annual Federation Board Meeting in October. And what gracious hosts our Sault Ste. Marie Sisters are! Their warm hospitality informed the Wednesday to Sunday gathering with a spirit of celebration that made the fairly heavy agenda much easier to handle.

Sisters Bonnie Anne and Sister Anne rejoice in the celebration for Sisters Mary Lalemant and Sister Dora Lachapelle.

One special moment in the liturgical gatherings was a tribute to Sisters Mary Lalemant and Dora Lachappelle of the Sault Congregation. Sister Margaret Myatt (Toronto), President, saluted the two surviving pioneers within the Federation who were founding members of a new congregation. "We are so fortunate this afternoon to be in the presence of two of our Founding Sisters: Sister Mary Lalemant and Sister Dora Lachapelle ……. The example of your lives gives us heart to proceed with the ministry of love to the dear neighbour. Your lives are inspirations for all of us: your perseverance; your loving compassionate concern for all whom you meet; your determination to keep alive your ministry; your life today of prayer and loving presence to your Sisters here in your Congregation is felt by all of us in the Federation; you are our life-line to our beginnings……. We are grateful to you and ask you to pray for us that we may like you, be faithful followers of Jesus" said Sister Myatt.

SOME PLANNING TEAMS AT WORK!

Sister Margaret Kane (Hamilton), with the able assistance of Sister Margo Ritchie (London), led the Board through a process of entering more deeply into the Federation Mission Statement. The results were startling – and very exciting for all there.

It began with a powerful ritual designed by Sister Marjorie McGuire of Pembroke. It continued through the process of deciding on an immediate goal and objectives for implementing the Mission Statement. Suddenly, it became apparent that we were at a new place together. Suddenly, the expression "Sisters of St. Joseph of Canada" had a life of its own. This was not an issue of jurisdiction or canonical structures, but a profound sense of oneness. "Where one Sister of St. Joseph is in mission, there we all are." Not surprisingly, this realization had a profound effect on our planning: Leadership Teams are committed to sharing their experience with the congregations, and this Office will be shaping its efforts in the light of a wider and deeper unity among us.

Sister Sheila Anne Spooner (Sault Ste Marie) reported on the recent Pilgrimage to France, and it looks as though another trip is in the works for 2005. Keep this in mind along with the ongoing hopes for the International Centre in France.
