Karen was born in Montreal, Quebec into a small family of
mixed religious background.
The desire for spiritual growth and faith development brought
her to be a Companion of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Hamilton
in 1995.
She presently lives in Burlington, Ontario and co-ordinates
St. Josephs Institute of Faith Development a
joint ministry of the Sisters of St. Joseph and their Companion
begun in 1997. This ministry aims to provide formation and
skill-development opportunities to lay persons called to parish/community
ministry in the Diocese of Hamilton.
The Congregations commitment to an apostolic spirituality
a willingness to be open to being an instrument of
Christs love in all places, situations and with all
people has been of great importance in her work developing
and teaching a thirty-week lay formation programme and crafting
ongoing formation opportunities for programme graduates. While
faced with many structural and personal challenges, lay ministers
today have wonderful opportunities to express Gods deep
love for humanity and Creation wherever they are led. In this
(and in many other ways) lay ministers today are serving in
ways akin to the foundational lifestyle and charism of the
Sisters of St. Joseph.
It does Karen well to be connected to this living tradition
of responding openly to needs within the universal Church.
The history and life of the Sisters of St. Joseph continue
to inspire and encourage her.
