Meet Laura Brown - Profile of a Toronto CSJ Associate

Having been a committed Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph
of Toronto for the last eight years has enriched my spiritual
and contemplative life beyond any expectations I may have
had at the time of my introduction to the other members of
the Avila Associate Community of Toronto, Morrow Park.
I had been asked by a member of the Avila Community to attend
an Orientation meeting held by the CSJ Associates. This was
to facilitate interested Roman Catholics, male and female,
in the discernment of possibly becoming an Associate who would
commit to attending regular monthly meetings. At these meetings,
the experience of studying the Maxims of Jean-Pierre Medaille,
the ensuing reflection of about fifteen minutes, followed
by the sharing of insights, slowly introduced me to the CSJ
charism and love of neighbour.
Over the years, I have noticed an almost imperceptible change
in my responses to life events -clearly an enormous gift of
an increase in my faith. As a mother of five married children,
a grandmother of six, soon to be seven, a wife and companion
of many years, I have encountered heart wrenching situations
and health problems, with which my faith has allowed me to
cope in calmness and assurance.
I often thank the Holy Spirit for having led me down this
path: conversion to Roman Catholicism, introduction to the
CSJ charism, and the Associate movement.
