Meet Terry (Theresa) Maloney,
CSJ Sault Ste Marie Associate

Theresa Maloney
Theresa Maloney,
CSJ Associate

I would like to introduce myself as an Associate of The Sisters of St. Joseph of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

My name is Terry (Theresa) Maloney. I reside in Garson, a part of Greater Sudbury, since April 2008. Born in Sault Ste. Marie, I've lived in Sudbury for over 50 years, and for a short time (3 1/2 years) in Ottawa.

My life as a widow for 25 years has been varied and fulfilling thanks to the support of family, friends and especially my children (5 boys, 2 girls), 12 grandchildren (8 boys, 4 girls), ranging in age from 31 years to 6 years, and one little great-grand daughter, who is now 8 years old. They have all kept me on my toes and feeling very blessed! No matter where my journey led me in creating a new life, they always supported and encouraged me.

A part of that "new life" was parish ministry, chaplaincy in pastoral services, counseling courses and employment at the Family Enrichment Centre in grief and bereavement work, and Spiritual Direction.

A very important part of that journey was becoming an Associate of the CSJ's.

When I accepted the invitation to "join" the Associates, I wasn't sure if this was the kind of commitment I was seeking or being called to. However, my experience with these Sisters whether on a friendship basis, or in the work place, was one of genuine hospitality to everyone, a sense of unity and joy in living, always with service to "others" at the forefront. This was quite an attraction in itself.

At the monthly meetings, I found these qualities very present. This gathering of women,(some groups have men also) from all walks of life, sharing their knowledge, wisdom and spirituality, enhanced my life and in turn, enriched my relationships with family and friends. I found the topics focused on at the meetings very interesting, especially those involving the history of the Sisters and their arrival here in the Diocese. I admired their courage which was supported by deep faith and willingness to serve.

As an Associate, I had the privilege to serve on the planning core committee at local and regional levels. I am proud to claim being an Associate as part of my identity.

Blessings to all! Terry Maloney
