Meet Marie Fleming,
CSJ Peterborough Associate

Marie Fleming
Marie Fleming,
CSJ Associate

My name is Marie and I was born on August 12, 1951. I am honoured to have been asked to join this spiritual and loving group of people. From the time I was a little girl, my philosophy has always been "Love will conquer all"!. I knew this because Jesus taught me this. I received the sacrament of Baptism in the Catholic Church and my elementary school years were spent at St. Joseph's Separate School and St. Theresa' Separate School, where I received my First Communion and the sacrament of Confirmation. I never really knew the depth of the meaning of that one little word "Love" but I know believe that I must have known it in my heart. I love the Trinity very much. Through Jesus I have learned to love my heavenly Father and I now understand that only through Him can I find the love and serenity I strive for.

During my early teen years, God gave me my space to show how much He loved me. It was at that time that I met the man I have been married to for 36 years. We have three beautiful children and four equally beautiful grandchildren. Hindsight is wonderful - looking back I would not have changed anything. Apparently God's plan and path for me was a whole lot different than I had pictured, and for that I am eternally grateful. I have come full circle as He knew I would, and it is His ever loving Grace that brought me through it all.

I continue to seek the "more" and to grow spiritually through such exercises as the Medaille on-line courses, reading the bible daily, reading spiritually uplifting books and teaching and living the twelve-step program. I try hard to balance my learning fun, work and home life. It is only through God's help that I manage this balance.

I try my best to seek solutions to social injustices and have taken part in political forums. I continually strive to understand the economic status of the day, and it goes without saying that I nurture mother earth with all my love.

My schooling led me to become a Registered Nurses Assistant. After my children were in school full time, I decided it was time for additional schooling and obtained my current status as a Registered Nurse.

With my husband, we belong to St. Michael's Parish in Cobourg. I am a member of the Catholic Women's League and in June 2007 had my Ceremony of Commitment at the Villa St. Joseph Retreat Centre with the Nazareth Community in attendance. Subsequently I was missioned by Sister Dorothy Ryan, General Superior, at Mount St. Joseph, Peterborough, Ontario. With God as my guide, my spiritual path will continue and only He knows in what direction.

I wish to thank all my sisters for their love and support and wish to express to each and every one how proud I am to be an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Peterborough with the Nazareth Community in Cobourg.
