Sister June Nash

My brother, Robert and I, were born in Ottawa to Kathleen
and Wilfred Nash. Through the years, I have received extensive
education and various ministry experiences which I will describe
briefly in this interview. Among other achievements, I am
the proud aunt of three wonderful nephews!
After attending Immaculata High School in Ottawa, I entered
the Sisters of St. Joseph in Peterborough in 1953. In 1960,
I started on my journey as a registered nurse, which later
took me into Public Heath Nursing in Saskatchewan. Leaving
Estevan, SK, in 1973, I returned to Peterborough as Assistant
Director of Nursing, and in 1976 as Director.
In 1983, after receiving a MA in Counselling in Ottawa,
I became chaplain at St. Peters Secondary School in
Peterborough, as well as doing some spiritual direction. After
my retirement in 1995, I was blessed with travel and study
in New Jersey and western Canada, followed by a pilgrimage
to Ireland. Also during this time, (1995-2000) I was administrator
at the Motherhouse.
In 2000, I started a part-time couselling practice and facilitated
various group processes for the grieving and separated and
divorced. I am blessed with good health and keep actively
involved in palliative care and hospice work. At home at the
Mount, I coordinate liturgical functions and our own small
store for sisters.
As I reflect back on my life, I would change nothing of
the past. My life has been of service to others, and very
fulfilling. It is through our experience of ups and
downs we experience our own personal growth. When asked
the question if you had your life to live over, would
you make the same choice? My answer is Yes.
I have been blessed with wonderful parents, family and the
congregation of the Sisters of St. Joseph.
Having celebrated my 50th Jubilee in 2003, my prayer is
one of thanksgiving to my congregation. How nice it would
be if more women were discerning their call to religious community
in the 21st century.
